Verugal - Pada Yatra

Verugal - Pada Yatra

Verugal (often spelt Verukal) is a very small hamlet in the southernmost part of the Trincomalee district. The Verugal Sri Cittira Velayudha Swami Temple, as well known as Sinna Kathirgamam or Verugal Kandaswamy, is located very close to the main road to Batticaloa, about 50 km south of Trincomalee, on the northern bank of the Verugal Aru river. It is dedicated to Murugan. As in the case of many other Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries along the shores of the island. The original temple was destroyed in the 16th century by Portuguese Christians but rebuilt later on.
